Salamina
Salamina is the homeland of Aiantas and the tragic playwright Euripides, place of residence and establishment of the poet Angelos Sikelianos and host for George Karaiskakis. It is widely known in world history for the largest battle of the ages, made in 480 BC by the outcome of which, won by the Greeks, survived and developed the Greek culture and spread to the West and all over the world.
In ancient times, Salamis was known by the names Pitiousa (Pitis the tree pine), Skiras (from hero Skiron) and Kychreia (from Kychrea). The island is also known since ancient times with the name Koulouris, from the Cape "Kolouris akra" (now Punta), in which was built the ancient city and the port of the 4th century BC. Today, the island offers culture, together with the municipality, various cultural associations.
