Porto Lagos

Porto Lagos is a fishing village built on the narrow peninsula that separates the lake Vistonida from the sea. According to tradition, at the head of Vistonida were stables for horses of Diomedes, king of the indigenous perspective of Vistones. The archaeological excavations revealed remains of a Byzantine settlement, perhaps Poroi. In the second half of the 19th century, Porto Lagos was an important port in the Thrace. It is 24km. southeast of Xanthi.
